What does being part of Safety in Practice involve?

  • Establish a two to three person Patient Safety team which should preferably comprise of a GP, a practice nurse and a senior administrator.
  • Send your Patient Safety team to four evening learning sessions.
  • Attend meetings in your practice to discuss data collected during the programme and identify areas for improvement.
  • Complete one clinical module, one prescriber indicator and one safety culture tool per year

Safety in Practice is a 3-year programme. Practices choose to re-enroll annually. Each year practices focus on new modules.

  • Training in quality improvement skills, tools, and techniques to make patient care safer.
  • Quality improvement support and facilitation to assist with improvements in practice systems and processes.
  • An opportunity to share and learn with other practices.
  • An annual financial contribution of up to $5400 excl. GST (This amount will be paid by the DHB in one payment, provided that all of the mandatory requirements specified are met throughout the year)
  • Participation contributes to RNZCGP Cornerstone® accreditation, RNZCGP MOPS (Maintenance of Professional Standards) and NZNC Professional Development Hours (PDRP).
